A Summer of Songs for Troy Vita

In the heat of the Texas summer sun, Troy Vita spent his summer vacation working diligently to forward his career and make a little extra cash on the side.

Troy, 20, studies Electronic Media at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication as a junior at Texas State University. Although he has acquired a wide range of skills throughout his years at Texas State, and previously the University of North Texas, Troy's heart is set on music. To help in the pursuit of his heart's desire, he took the initiative to work at our campus's official radio station, KTSW. Since the start of his work at the station in the fall of last year, Troy has had the opportunity to experience the inner workings of radio. As the music director for the station since March, his main responsibility involves sifting through demos sent in by artists in the area and deciding what KTSW listeners get to hear.

Besides his ongoing job at the radio station, Troy worked at Frozen Cave during the summer, which is located right across the street from campus on North LBJ. According to him, this trendy frozen yogurt haven did not receive much foot traffic during the summer holiday, but that didn't stop him from enjoying the experience.

A summer full of work shifts and paychecks is no new feat, but Troy's summer was more than all of that. It was a chance for him to spend more time doing what he loves and to reach higher for his dream of working for a record label. So the next time you tune in to KTSW 89.9, don't forget the man behind the music.
