SAN MARCOS— Ashley Garcia is a sophomore at Texas State University majoring in journalism and minoring in criminal justice.
Ashley is from Dallas, Texas and hopes to work for The Chicago Tribune as a crime reporter.
Ashley is very passionate about journalism. In elementary school Ashley spent countless hours in front of the TV watching the news. In middle school Ashley interviewed a prisoner for a class project. In high school Ashley worked as the assistant editor for her school’s newspaper, The Jaguar Print.
Ashley currently works as a student worker at the dean’s office for The College of Fine Arts and Communication.
On Ashley’s days off she enjoys drinking a hot cup of coffee, laughing with her roommates, watching Netflix in her pajamas and obsessing over Oprah and Anderson Cooper.
Ashley is the first in her family to go to college and that is something that she is very proud of.
Ashley is the Vice President of Chi Alpha, a Christian organization at Texas State that has helped Ashley get through the rough patches in life, and she is also part of the Association of Hispanic Journalists (AHJ).
Ashley takes a lot of pride in her work and she hopes to inspire many people in the years to come.
