SAN MARCOS - Mass communication and journalism majors, who want outside of the classroom experience, have the opportunity to travel to New York City with Bobcat Promotions.
This organization is a student run, student led public relations firm on campus. Taking what they have learned from course studies, Bobcat Promotions offers students real life situations in the public relations industry. With clients including Grins, and the trailer food area, The Hitch, students work in teams to help promote these businesses in San Marcos.
However, even students who are not public relations majors still have the ability to benefit going to New York.
Charles Kaufman, Bobcat Promotions faculty adviser, said students not in Bobcat Promotions would get a lot out of the trip. Hands on experience with clients, skills and teamwork, and a sense of entrepreneurship are all things that Kaufman said students have the ability to gain from this experience.
“It’s a slice of real world,” Kaufman said.
Already confirmed opportunities for the students include visiting Ogilvy Public Relations, the New York Mets, and speaking with Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General.
