Kiki Gusman Profile

By: Nicole Weber

SAN MARCOS-Transitioning from life in Austin to life as a Texas State student was a bit nerve-wracking for Christian “Kiki” Gusman as she adjusted to leaving her old friends behind to come to a campus where she had not yet made any.

Kiki had lived in Austin for the majority of her life, with the exception of three years she spent living with her family in Houston. Austin had always felt like more of a home to her because she feels like the city has more to offer, such as unique live music experiences like “Blues on the Green.”

Experiencing live music is one of Kiki’s favorite things to do, but no concert has been able to compare to how much she enjoyed seeing her favorite artist Drake perform live. Her eyes lit up as she described the evening; she was close to the stage and sung along to songs she knew well. Overall, the concert was “really freaking cool” according to Kiki and she looks back on the memory fondly.

But since leaving Austin, Kiki quickly discovered that San Marcos has plenty to offer as well. She has taken a liking to floating the river, as most locals do, and seeing the latest films playing at the local theatre.

Kiki is now a sophomore at Texas State, in pursuit of a career she has been dreaming of since she was a child. Ever since young Kiki saw the movie “The Wedding Planner” she knew it was her calling. Captivated by the glamorous gowns and overall intricacy and beauty of weddings, her dream is to make other’s dreams come true for that perfect day. With only a few more semesters of college left, that dream doesn’t seem too far from coming true!
