Fashion at SXSW

Fashion bloggers were all over this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) style trends in Austin during the 10-day music, film and interactive festival.

The Austin community and its thousands of visitors from all over came dressed for the occasion and made SXSW a night filled with fashion. Trends seen this year included anything and everything, from hipsters in flowy dresses and flowered headpieces to punk rockers rocking leather and cutoffs.

Jamie Peck of the lifestyle blog The Gloss shared that a big trend this year was racy, sheer mullet-like skirts (think party in the front, business in the back) that didn’t leave much to the imagination, worn with hot pants underneath.

“Other girls I saw in this outfit wore leotards or bodysuits underneath, or sometimes just straight up underwear, Peck said. “Underwear that everyone could see.”

Hats of all shapes and sizes were a must have accessory at SXSW, according to fashion blogger Rachel Martino of the blog The Vagina.

“Bohemian floppy felt hats, causal fedoras, and wide-brimmed straw numbers somewhere between Monaco-esque and Appalachian chic hit the streets on fashion’s hipster darlings at South By,” Martino said.

Aside from the usual messenger bag, over-sized sunnies and hats in every form, Julia Keim from the Free People blog added that an unexpected item was on this year’s accessory must-have list.

“This year, we also saw a lot of eclectic mixed prints, statement bohemian accessories, and round sunglasses were everywhere,” Keim said.  “Another must-have accessory: the camera, of course.”

Some chose to push the envelope with racy pieces while some stayed classic and cool with more simple pieces. Whichever the case, no trend was off limits at this year’s SXSW.
